Training course on Media Tools in Azerbaijan

The training course “The use of media tools in community art projects” was held in Baku on October 18-20, 2013.

The next step within the framework of the CAUCULT project will be the implementation of Community Art events by the KDWs in their communities. In the previous stage of the project, they attended several training courses and participated in a study tour to Vienna and Vilnius. All these events helped the KDWs to develop creative and innovative Community Art related ideas that they are going to bring into the reality in Baku and the selected regions.  Before the implementation of the ideas, the KDWs will conduct Start-up Festivals to make their projects more visible and promote them in a better way.


To achieve this goal, Yuva Humanitarian Center organized a media training for the KDWs. “The use of media tools in community art projects” training was held in Baku on October 18-20, 2013. The goal of the training was to equip the KDWs with PR tools, to introduce media channels for distributing their messages, promoting cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. 


16 KDWs from Baku, Guba, Oguz, Zagatala, Ismayilli, Lenkoran, Masalli and Astara attended the workshop.  Marketing, PR tools, traditional media, e-media and social media channels, and ways to work with media people were introduced to the participants.  The training course was led by Rashad Aliyev (Media expert), Pervana Mammadova and Ilaha Rasulova.

Marketing is not only necessary for business, but it is important for social, economic, and culture related projects. Marketing research and tools are useful in the area of proposal writing, strategic planning and etc. Research one as of the main areas of marketing, 4p levels of analyses were discussed as well. It was necessary to introduce marketing methods and tools to the KDWs in order to make the upcoming cultural events and projects they are going to organize more visible and attractive for the society.

The other topics discussed during the training course were PR concepts, theories, PR techniques and tools. Main principles of working with media outlets, the role of e-media and social media in promoting the visibility of cultural events were part of this session. The KDWs were given an overview about the possibilities of traditional media as well as e-media/social media tools and channels to raise the visibility of cultural events as well as other activities of their organizations. At the end of the session the film “Thank you for smoking” demonstrated the role of PR.

Furthermore,  basic principles working with media outlets, developing press releases, passing the right messages were presented to the participants. Different press release samples were given to the KDWs, for them to review and discuss them based on the theoretical input given by the trainer beforehand. Besides, monitoring tools and indicators were introduced as an important issue to the KDWs, for them to be sure about the successful promotion of their activities and events. 


The KDWs also presented their revised project ideas taking into account the following criteria, such as links to community needs assessment, participation, involvement of people in the activities and cultural expression and their PR plan for start-up festivals.
